western massachusetts karate

Uechi-ryu-Karate-do is a traditional Okinawan fighting system, with its roots in the chuan-fa arts of southern China. Uechi emphasizes close-in fighting, with practical, no-nonsense techniques. Uechi training includes kata practice, two-person application drills/sparring, and physical conditioning. The Hatfield Shubukan (shubukan, “place of higher learning,” is another word for dojo) is located in Hatfield, Massachusetts, right off I-91 and is convenient to Northampton, Amherst (UMass), Hadley, and many other towns in the Pioneer Valley.

A number of other martial arts are offered in western Massachusetts, each with its own philosophy of martial practice. So why choose Uechi at the Hatfield Shubukan? For the answer, read more about us on this site and feel free to email Sensei Brian Stoia or call the dojo for more info. Of course, the best way to get a feel for Uechi at the Hatfield Shubukan is to stop by and check out a class. Sensei Brian would be glad to meet with you to discuss Uechi and the philosophy of the school.

“Karate the way it was meant to be.”
